My top RAM slot has apparently died. My laptop cx-0670nd wouldn#x27;t boot, now after trying both ram sticks singularly in both slots it turn out the RAM is fine but one of the slots is dead. The HP spare parts website can#x27;t find my device, so finding a replacement motherboard is ridiculously difficult. I am out of warranty. The RAM slot didn#x27;t even allow the RAM stick to lock. Of course the warranty is up. I reconmmend you all check you second RAM slots and or try to upgrade RAM before the 1 year warranty is up if you find out the RAM slot are faulty they won#x27;t replace the motherboard or computer after the year. After leaving the Ultra Fit in either the USB 2.0 or 3.0 slots for a mere 5 minutes it gets considerably hot. Even AFTER ejecting the drive and leaving it in it is still getting hot. In the 3.0 slot it gets so hot you dont want to hold it. Im wondering if this is due. I inserted a RAM stick in a memory slot one by one and I was able to determine which slot was faulty. Every time I would try to use both slots, the NUC won#x27;t boot up because I would also be using the faulty one. Both RAM sticks worked in the working memory slot but both RAM sticks did not work in the one I determined to be faulty 1.

There are 4 memory slots on the motherboard - 2 white and 2 black. I have 2 x 256 MB memory cards. According to the Owner#x27;s Manual, the first memory card should be in the white slot closest to the CPU which it is and then the second in the second white slot which doesn#x27;t seem to be working now. Apparently, there is nothing wrong with the memory modules and the laptop has a faulty memory slot B. The memory slot is permanently soldered on the motherboard. If one of the slots fails you#x27;ll have to replace the whole motherboard or use the laptop with only one working slot.

Try to swap your ram stick to another slot. if you still get the issue, try to buy new ram then install it. if it boot and run without any BSOD it means your RAM is culprit. its ok on slot 1 and 3. As for fixing the upper RAM slot its self, not much you can do here. You could try loosening the bracket screws 2 on each side a bit, a 1/4 turn should do it. See if the de-stressing the bracket allows the contacts to grasp the module. If that that fails then your idea of using a 8 GB module in the lower slot alone will work too!.
